World Wide Wadio, the premier radio production company in the USA, is upgrading its studios to encompass Fairlight’s Crystal Core technology.
Due to take place later this month, the upgrade will result in all four rooms at its on-site facility in Hollywood being driven by the Crystal Core (CC-1) engine. The studios will also be equipped with Fairlight Xynergi user interfaces, three of which will be incorporated into Fairlight large format Constellation mixing consoles as the new Xynergi Centre Section panels.
World Wide Wadio serves the advertising, entertainment and Internet industries with award winning, creative productions. The company has won more than 1,000 awards – including 22 at the most recent Promax Award show (the most awards to a single winner in the history of the competition). Its client list features many of the world’s top brands and entertainment companies including CBS, Showtime, Comedy Central, McDonald’s, Columbia Tristar, Discovery, Disney, A&E, Pfizer, VH1, Coca-Cola, History, FOX and many more household names.
The decision to upgrade to Fairlight CC-1 and Xynergi was taken by World Wide Wadio’s President and Chief Creative Officer Paul Fey and Senior Vice President Stewart Sloke. They were guided by the technical expertise of Laurent Jouvin, World Wide Wadio’s Senior Sound Designer and Chief Engineer.
“We currently have 4 on-site studios and 2 off-site operations, all equipped with Fairlight technology,”? Jouvin says. “As long-time Fairlight users it was clear to us that the Crystal Core System is a huge technological leap forward. Due to the growth of World Wide Wadio, we took the decision to upgrade to CC-1 because we needed to streamline our workflow and further increase the speed at which we could respond to our client’s needs.”?
Incorporated into Fairlight’s key products such as Constellation, Xynergi and Anthem, the CC-1 engine offers significant improvements in speed, rate of workflow and reliability by performing digital audio and video processing hundreds of times more efficiently than state-of-the-art CPUs or digital signal processors. CC-1 has also placed Fairlight at the forefront of ‘green’ computing initiatives by providing an alternative processing platform that delivers increased performance with dramatically lower power consumption, thus helping facilities reduce their energy costs and their carbon footprints.
A key element of World Wide Wadio’s upgrade is the installation of Fairlight Xynergi in all four studios. This award-winning technology incorporates integrated PyxisTrack video and features the Xynergi controller, a desktop user interface that allows engineers to access all features and functions of the Fairlight CC-1, as well as commonly used Windows applications such as Email, Word and Excel.
“The combination of CC-1 and Xynergi will further enhance our creativity and speed up production time, thus helping to increase workflow through the facility,”? Jouvin explains. “At World Wide Wadio, engineers do not “live” in any particular control room. All engineers utilize all rooms so the qualities of the rooms better fit the needs of the jobs. Common Xynergi work surfaces will allow eye-hand coordination to be consistent, eliminating re-adjustments going from room to room.”?
Jouvin adds that being able to import audio and video in virtually any file format directly into the system is another key advantage.
“I don’t believe any other system has that capability,”? he says.
