Background
At Film Alley in Terrell, Texas, a night at the movies transforms into an unforgettable experience. Owned by Schulman Theatres, a family-run business with a legacy stretching back to 1926, Film Alley is more than just a movie theater. This 74,000-square-foot entertainment hub invites guests to bowl, play arcade games, enjoy a scratch-made meal, and of course, immerse themselves in captivating visuals. From the Rock Bar and Grill to the glowing displays lining the hallways of its theater, Film Alley’s atmosphere is elevated by the seamless integration of video across its spaces.
Behind the scenes, Save Electronics played a pivotal role in delivering this exceptional AV experience. With a history of successful projects for hospitality heavyweights like Omni, Marriott, and Hilton, the Save Electronics has been perfecting AV installations since 1957. Their expertise and long-standing partnership with Just Add Power have made them a trusted name for crafting high-profile video-over-IP solutions, and Film Alley is no exception.
Challenge
Film Alley’s sprawling venue is a hub of activity, offering bowling alleys, a movie theater, a bar and grill, meeting rooms, and more — all enhanced by a network of 34 displays. These screens bring entertainment to every corner, from the bowling lanes to the bar and grill, hallways, and private meeting spaces.
With multiple video sources across the entire building, Film Alley needed a reliable video distribution system that could handle complex requirements. The solution had to be scalable to accommodate future growth, flexible enough to support diverse content, and easy to integrate with a Crestron control system.
Solution
Save Electronics standardized on Just Add Power years ago, and they were the perfect AV-over-IP solution to meet Film Alley’s ambitious AV needs. Save Electronics selected Just Add Power’s 3G Ultra Series encoders and decoders to distribute high-resolution video to the venue’s network of displays. In addition, Film Alley’s five meeting/event rooms feature in-wall transmitters, which allow guests to share their own content directly to the screens.
Just Add Power’s 3G Ultra platform delivers 4K@30Hz Ultra HD with HDCP 2.2 support, ensuring high-quality, ultra-low latency transmission of 4K or lower-resolution sources. The built-in scaler on the receiver allows for seamless display on both 1080p and 4K screens. Other features include image pull for visibility on control devices, instant switching, and thanks to its modular design, expanding the system with additional sources or displays is as simple as adding another transmitter or receiver, protecting Film Alley’s investment for years to come.
“Just Add Power is a partner we trust,” said Tim Boyd, owner of Save Electronics. “Their solutions are reliable, adaptable, and built to evolve with our clients’ needs. I’ve installed Just Add Power systems on projects more than a decade ago that are still running strong today.”
Results
With Just Add Power, Film Alley’s staff can quickly and intuitively manage all displays and sources. The ultra-low latency and fast source switching ensure a seamless experience for guests, whether they’re watching live sports in the Rock Bar and Grill, bowling with friends, or hosting a corporate event or party in the meeting rooms.
“Just Add Power’s technology lets us take the AV experience to a whole new level,” Boyd said. “It’s not just about delivering great visuals; it’s about seamlessly integrating video into every aspect of the venue to create a unified, immersive atmosphere that leaves a lasting impression.”
