Unity Audio Flaunts New B.A.B.E at the 2016 NAMM Show

Latest addition to company’s monitor range on display in Anaheim

ANAHEIM, CA, JANUARY 13, 2016 – Unity Audio, leading UK designer and manufacturer of studio and mastering monitors, will be showcasing the Boulder Active Bass Extender (B.A.B.E) for the first time in the United States at the 2016 NAMM Show (Hall A, Booth 6324).

Affectionately known as the B.A.B.E (pronounced ‘babe’), this speaker is designed to transform the Unity Audio Boulder MKII from a 3-way near / mid-field monitor into a 4-way system mid-field / main monitor for higher SPL and extended low frequency applications, perfect for use in bigger tracking/mixing and mastering rooms. The woofer is a single 12”/300mm driver with a large 5”/130mm Hexatech external voice coil wound with a hexagonal-shaped aluminum coil wire, which is 2-3 times thicker than a standard woofer. This enables accurate music reproduction and superior durability, delivering an extraordinary combination of audiophile musicality and high power handling.

The B.A.B.E maintains the same sealed cabinet approach used throughout the Unity Audio range. This design provides faster, tighter and more accurate linear bass reproduction and results in less phase rotation, reduced time domain ringing, lower group delay and a more shallow roll-off slope than alternate ported designs.

In a stereo Boulder/B.A.B.E system anywhere from two to four cabinets can be employed. The more cabinets used, the higher the SPL will be. Several mounting options are available to provide maximum flexibility, including soffit mount or free-standing, allowing the speakers to be positioned side-by-side, horizontally with the B.A.B.E underneath or as a tower with dedicated optional stands.

Each B.A.B.E cabinet has its own rack-mountable 750W class-D amplifier. An external Unity Audio rack-mount DSP 2-input, 4-output speaker management system is used to crossover the B.A.B.E to the Boulder with the added benefit of precise on board gain, phase, EQ, limiters and presets.

Employing the B.A.B.E creates a fully 4-way Boulder system that can be configured by the user, while delivering a breathtaking performance. Combining these characteristics makes the B.A.B.E a natural choice for all critical music applications.
