Associations Focus: CEDIA Moves Forward After Another Successful Expo

CEDIA EXPO 2008 SUCCESS
For five days, Sept. 3-7, the industry’s best gathered for the last time in Denver to share information, learn about new technology, and continue building the residential-electronic-systems industry.
CEDIA Expo 2008 proved to be yet another successful event. CEDIA University provided its attendees with more than 200 courses in its five colleges. For the first time, CEDIA provided members with 29 hours of free education — 24.25 CEUs, valued at $1,258. In addition to all the free education, CEDIA unveiled seven new EST Learning Lab courses in order to enhance attendees’ hands-on learning experience.
Not only did attendees get the most out of the hundreds of courses offered, they also experienced hundreds of the newest product introductions from more than 600 exhibitors on the tradeshow floor. In addition to the education and tradeshow floor, CEDIA also provided its attendees some amazing special events.
CEDIA kicked off the week at the annual golf outing, giving attendees a chance to network in a relaxed environment. CEDIA honored the “Best of the Best” at the Electronic Lifestyles Awards Banquet on Saturday night. As CEDIA prepared to close its door to the Colorado Convention Center, there was one last thing on the agenda: making one person very lucky. CEDIA gave away a 2008 Mustang Convertible.
With the conclusion to another successful Expo, stay tuned for details about CEDIA Expo 2009, which will be held in Atlanta Sept. 9-13.
INSTRUCTOR-LED ELEARNING
CEDIA introduced live elearning webinars earlier this year. CEDIA University instructors led these interactive sessions on a range of topics at both beginner and advanced skill levels in all five CEDIA University colleges.
Live elearning courses, which run either 90 minutes or 180 minutes each, are held Tuesdays and Thursdays at 12 p.m. EST at www.cedia.org/elearning_webinar. Don’t worry if you missed the first live webinar; each course will be recorded and available in CEDIA University’s elearning library for students to purchase. These elearning webinars offer students an alternate option to have an instructor-led learning experience from the comfort of their own home or office.

CEDIA INTRODUCES NEW MEMBER BENEFIT
CEDIA Crosspoint is a new web-based CEDIA community helps digest and assess what’s around the corner for the electronic-systems industry.
Crosspoint is the new web portal driven by CEDIA’s volunteer Technology Council. Through content that includes a wiki, blogs, forums, survey polls, and an AV library, Crosspoint aims to provide a one-stop solution for members’ technology inquiries, allowing participants to prepare for changes and opportunities created by technology.
CEDIA’s Technology Council is a new volunteer team charged with assessing industry trends and projections and channeling this information to CEDIA members. The council developed Crosspoint to be the premier catalyst for information-sharing — a meeting place where common and obscure discoveries, trends, and techniques are shared and discussed.
Crosspoint is exclusively available to CEDIA members. Content and dialogue will be provided by leadership, volunteers, electronic systems designers and technicians, and manufacturers. Crosspoint contains high-profile blogs, a video and audio library populated with information on emerging and future technologies, and is an open gateway where users can converse, solve problems, and share valuable information.
CEDIA members will use Crosspoint to become better informed on trends, technologies, and techniques. Participants will be able to discuss the projected future of the industry and anticipate the challenges and opportunities it creates for their businesses.
Open dialogue among participants will foster an environment where CEDIA members are prepared to capitalize on the technologies of the future and where product development takes the perspective of industry members into consideration.
