2017 Year-in-Review: TVU Networks Accelerates Innovation in IP Video Technology and Worldwide Company Growth

Company launches new transformative products and technology while increasing its global presence

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA – Heading into the end of a year filled with the most technical development and global expansion it’s seen thus far, TVU Networks shares its annual year-in-review, detailing the company’s growth as a market leader in video-over-IP technology.

“Our focus remains on constant innovation within the industries we serve as we increase our presence around the world,” said Paul Shen, CEO, TVU Networks. “Our latest solutions were designed with our customers’ needs in mind even as we were committed to developing reliable, efficient and effective IP video technology. In addition, we were able to deliver world-class customer support throughout the year whenever and wherever we were needed.”

Added Shen, “We are carrying the momentum we gained this year into all aspects of our 2018 product, services and technology development. And as we continue to help our customers meet their challenges and needs in IP video in 2018, we will also continue to expand the TVU brand globally.”

TVU Networks was recognized with numerous industry awards for its new products this year. At NAB, TVU Network’s TVU One with HEVC received NewBay’s Best of Show Award from TV Technology, while TVU Producer won NewBay’s Best of Show Award from Video Edge. At IBC 2017, TVU was awarded with a Best of Show Award from TVBEurope for TVU Router. TVU’s CEO Paul Shen was also chosen by TV Technology as a recipient of the NewBay Industry Innovator Awards for his innovation and excellence in the broadcast and media technology industry. TVU was also recognized as a leading manufacturer in the online video space by Streaming Media Magazine, making the publication’s annual 2017 Streaming Media 100 list for the third consecutive year.

TVU Networks provided essential support this year to its customers during a wide variety of events, from Super Bowl 51, NFL regular season coverage, and racecar driver Devin O’Connell’s live race streaming, to Kenya and South Korea’s presidential election coverage, and Hurricane Harvey coverage by Texas-based broadcasters in the midst of the storm.

With a commitment to global expansion, the company welcomed several new personnel to its sales team in places like Thailand, Australia, Germany and Korea. To better serve its growing customer base as TVU continued to experience worldwide company growth, the company expanded its sales team across the globe. TVU welcomed Dave Demmocks as its Director of Sales in Australia and New Zealand, Marc Derks as Sales Director for Benelux, Scandinavia, and Germany, Roberto Musso as Sales Director in Italy, Johnny Ha as its Sales Director in Korea, and Abdalla Elhag as its East and Central Africa Sales Director. Internationally, the company also hired Tankhun Intaraphan as its Sales Manager in Thailand. Within the U.S., TVU welcomed Marcel Fontaine as its Southwestern Senior Sales Executive and Tyson Atherholt as its Northeast Region Senior Sales Executive.

2017 saw TVU Networks expand its line of end-to-end IP-based ecosystem of hardware and software products, workflows and services designed for live video acquisition, production and operational efficiency. The company introduced several new products, including an award-winning new version of its flagship TVU One mobile IP newsgathering transmitter that features H.265/HEVC video compression standard support; TVU Router, which delivers high-speed Internet connectivity remotely; TVU Transcriber for AI-based audio to text transcription and TVU TimeLock for wireless, remote production.

Weighing just 2.2 pounds, TVU One with HEVC cellular mobile solution uses both HEVC video compression and TVU’s patented Inverse Statmux Plus (IS+) transmission algorithm – which transmits HD quality video with half-second latency. TVU One with HEVC is available with embedded modems and can transmit simultaneously over multiple connections, including cellular, microwave, satellite, BGAN, WiFi, and Ethernet. Customers of TVU One with HEVC include the Seoul Broadcasting System (SBS), who recently purchased units for its news bureaus in Tokyo, Paris, Los Angeles, New York, and Washington D.C., and the New York bureau of TBS and RKB Mainichi Broadcasting Corp. (RKB) – a sub key station of the TBS network based in Fukuoka, Japan.

TVU Networks also recently introduced its new TVU Transcriber service and TVU TimeLock technology. TVU TimeLock enables multiple TVU One units to synchronize together at a set latency, allowing mobile and wireless At-home/REMI productions without being tethered. Entire remote events can be produced from a control room in a separate location using TVU One with TVU TimeLock technology to provide frame synchronization. TVU Transcriber is an audio to text transcribing service that uses voice recognition technology to output text to a file format from an audio input source for auditing purposes, or embed text into a video stream for closed or open captioning. Other products introduced by TVU Networks in 2017 include TVU Router, which provides over 200Mbps of Internet connectivity from virtually any remote location and acts as a network accelerator, and TVU Producer – a web-based application for producing live content for social media.

Shen concluded, “We’re thrilled with our overall growth in 2017, and we strive to push the live video industry forward even more so next year and further into the future. “

Already in use by hundreds of leading broadcast organizations around the world, the TVU Networks family of IP transmission solutions give broadcasters and organizations a powerful and reliable tool to distribute live video content to broadcast, online and mobile platforms.
