BenQ Expands Flexible, Eco-Friendly, Short-Throw Projector Lineup

MX819ST and MW820ST Combine Simple Operation With Enhanced SmartEco(TM) Technology to Enable up to 10,000 Hours of Lamp Life

ORLANDO, Fla. — InfoComm — June 11, 2013 — BenQ America Corp., an internationally renowned provider of digital lifestyle innovations and global DLP(R) projector leader, today introduced the latest additions to its SmartEco(TM) line of short-throw classroom projectors: the MX819ST and MW820ST. Designed to bring flexibility, performance, and energy savings to small and medium education spaces, the projectors feature lower short-throw ratios, sharper image quality, and BenQ’s leading energy-saving technology to lower the devices’ total cost of ownership (TCO), while attaining an unparalleled maximum of 10,000 hours of lamp life.

To provide teachers and students with optimal picture quality, the projectors feature XGA (MX819ST) and wide-screen WXGA (MW820ST) native resolutions in addition to high contrast ratios of 12000:1. By casting a strong 3,000 ANSI lumens of brightness, the devices also ensure bright projections in any ambient light setting, eliminating the need to dim classroom lights. The MX819ST and MW820ST utilize a six-segment color wheel (RGBYWC) to produce deeper blacks, higher contrasts, and a crisper overall projection experience.

With their short-throw capabilities, the MX819ST and MW820ST simplify both installations and setup by providing added flexibility in projector placement. With a short-throw ratio of 0.61, the MX819ST casts an image of 78 inches at a 38-inch distance, while the MW820ST’s short-throw ratio of 0.49 projects a large 87-inch picture from only 36 inches away. This proximity also eliminates the “blinding lights” effect, allowing teachers to stand closer to the screen without obstructing the projection or getting light in their eyes. To make setup and operation even easier, both projectors feature manual keystone calibration.

“Our new MX819ST and MW820ST short-throw projectors enable teachers to create content-rich lesson plans without incurring higher costs or complexity,” said Kristin Kennedy, Associate Vice President, U.S. Sales at BenQ America Corp. “By integrating BenQ’s world-leading SmartEco technology, an unprecedented lamp life of up to 10,000 hours can be reached, resulting in remarkable picture quality and enhanced energy efficiency for our customers.”

With BenQ’s new SmartEco Lamp Care setting, the projectors dynamically adjust lamp power between 80 and 30 percent, resulting in high contrasts and an incredible 10,000 hours of maximum lamp life. To further reduce power consumption, the devices also feature an “Eco Blank” mode which allows teachers to blank out the screen whenever projection isn’t needed, while a “No Source Detected” mode automatically lowers brightness to 30 percent when no display has been detected for more than three minutes. With BenQ’s SmartEco Image Care capabilities, the projectors also dynamically adjust lamp power between 100 and 30 percent to match ambient lighting conditions, resulting in up to 6,500 hours of lamp life without compromising image quality. In “Standby” mode, the projectors lower power consumption to less than 0.5 W during periods of inactivity, while an audio pass-through function adds to lamp preservation during times when teachers require only sound.

For administrators, maintenance is simplified with features such as LAN control, which enables easy remote monitoring and control directly from IT workstations. The MX819ST and MW820ST are also Crestron(R), PJLink(R), RoomView, eControl, and AMX compatible, further increasing their maintenance flexibility. To minimize heat damage, the projectors reduce cooling time by 60 percent, preserving the units’ optical components while minimizing the time needed to shut down classroom equipment. Lamp replacement has also been made extra easy with access from the top of the projector, while a security bar enables fastening to Kensington locks to protect investments.

To create dynamic classroom content and make teaching even more efficient, the projectors feature full connectivity options including HDMI(R), RJ45, and audio ports, in addition to Blu-ray(TM) and full HD 3D support. With the projectors’ teaching template function, teachers can also easily write on whiteboards without the need to draw lines, and if projectors are accidentally switched off, an auto-restart function allows projections to get back onto the screen immediately.

Available now, the BenQ MX819ST, and MW820ST retail at $1,099 and $1,299, respectively. More information on BenQ’s full line of products is available at
