NAB 2017: PESA Provides Handheld Router Control with SmartView App

Huntsville, Alabama – PESA, a leading designer and manufacturer of professional AV distribution products and multi-channel streaming appliances, today announced SmartView, an app for Android-based tablets that provides instant monitoring and control of PESA routers. Ideal for managing multiple monitor walls and multi-viewers throughout a facility, SmartView’s customizable workspace makes it easy to change inputs and monitor signals in real time. PESA will launch SmartView later this month at the 2017 NAB Show (Booth SL4224) in Las Vegas, Nev., and show attendees will have the opportunity to win a free SmartView license.

An intuitive user interface simplifies source selection – just drag a signal source (input) from the resource bar at the top of the workspace to the desired destination (output) in the workspace for instant switching through the router. On the Android screen, outputs are visualized as monitors, and each frame within the monitor represents an individual screen or multi-viewer picture-in-picture (PiP) image. SmartView’s exclusive preview pane allows real-time monitoring of any video source.

For convenient monitor wall or multi-viewer management, SmartView tailors the tablet workspace to simulate the actual work environment. Similar to a Touch72 or Smart32 control panel, SmartView communicates through a facility’s PERC3000 control system using a secure, control protocol over the facility’s network. Users choose a layout pattern that matches a monitor wall or PiP design, then populate the workspace with monitor boxes scaled to represent the size of the various screens. As a result, SmartView shows which router input is supplying signal to every monitor or multi-view PiP. SmartView also allows users to create a list of favorite sources and destinations for faster configuration, and supports multiple users with various levels of control access.

“With SmartView, an operator doesn’t need to visit the hardware in each room to update or monitor the video wall,” said Randy Lloyd, vice president of sales. “PESA has made it easy to manage your video walls through your tablet. We believe this is a great tool to help AV professionals save time and resources for school campuses, large government facilities, or corporate offices.”

SmartView works with PESA routers and requires a PESA XSTREAM streaming appliance, which encodes source signals to an H.264 stream for real-time monitoring on the Android tablet.
