TAB 2017: Rohde & Schwarz Remains Focused on FCC Repack

Columbia, MD — The FCC repack remains a top priority for many members of the Texas Association of Broadcasters, and premier transmitter, test and measurement and studio equipment manufacturer Rohde & Schwarz USA will offer repack guidance and solutions at TAB 2017, the group’s annual convention and trade show, next month in Austin.

Approximately 1,000 television stations across the country are required to transition to new channel assignments as a result of the FCC repack, which cleared UHF channels 38‑51 to make room for wireless broadband. The process will be conducted in 10 phases with staggered completion dates over the next several years.

“The FCC repack is certainly providing challenges to Texas broadcasters, but it’s also an opportunity for stations to replace existing transmitters that may not even be supported by their original manufacturers anymore,” said Erik Balladares, vice president of Broadcast & Media, Rohde & Schwarz USA. “Rohde & Schwarz’s turnkey solutions can help a station keep their transition on track, reduce their operating costs, and turn their RF investment into a reliable revenue generation stream. Plus, our transmitters provide a smooth transition to ATSC 3.0.”

Rohde & Schwarz offers a number of VHF and UHF transmitters, including the R&S THU9evo liquid-cooled UHF transmitter family with energy efficiency values of up to 43 percent for ATSC. Compared to convention transmitters, the THU9evo can save up to 50 percent of energy costs (in Doherty operation), while offering the highest power density on the market. Plus, the R&S THU9evo provides configuration flexibility and scalability in a very small footprint, which results in further cost reductions over the system lifetime.
