Proficient Audio, a producer of custom-installed home and outdoor audio systems, designed an outdoor loudspeaker for use with 70-volt audio systems. The AW8070V allows a single amplifier to power many loudspeakers and for those speakers to be daisy-chained.

Using a weather-resistant ABS housing and a powder-coated perforated aluminum grille, the AW8070V contains two 1¼-inch aluminum dome tweeters that pivot to direct the sound. And 8-inch polypropylene-cone woofer provides the bass. A tilting bracket with theft-deterrent security bolts secures the loudspeaker to a wall, eave, fence, or post.

There are four settings available-8, 16, 32, and 64 watts-and a 4-ohm transformer bypass setting that allows the loudspeaker to be used with conventional audio systems. Measuring 9x16x9 inches and available in black or white, the AW8070V is rated to handle up to 90 watts of power, has a sensitivity of 89 dB, a frequency response of 70 Hz to 20 kHz, and retails for $435.

“The AW8070V is a more economical way to go when you need really big coverage,” said Keith Marshall, president of Proficient Audio, in a statement. “It lets you run speaker cables practically as long as you want, attach as many speakers as you need and power the whole system with a single 70-volt amplifier, so it eliminates most of the problems of using conventional audio gear in large backyards and estates.”
