Q: I’m a systems integrator and have been searching for a “box” that can take in multiple component video signals and output them to a single video display. Are there currently any products like this on the market?
A: Several companies make simple component video switchers that can do this. An example is Kramer Electronics’ model VS-2042, which is a 4×2 switcher designed for component video signals (often referred to as YUV, Y/R-Y/B-Y or Y/Cb/Cr on RCA connectors). It can route any of the four inputs to both the main and secondary outputs. This allows the user to connect four sources with component video outputs such as DVD players or HDTV tuners and switch between them simultaneously, sending the selected input to both the main and secondary outputs. The VS-2042 lists for $1,195.
