With more than 1,600 exhibitors at NAB 2008, finding technology that appeals most to AV pros can be a daunting task.
1. Pro Audio. NAB has attempted to group most pro audio vendors in one place. Exhibitors include Audio-Technica, Denon and Marantz Professional, Dolby, Sennheiser Electronics, and Shure. North Hall
2. Display Systems. At the other end of the convention center, you’ll find a dedicated display systems pavilion. Exhibitors include 3M, Christie Digital, Electrosonic Display Devices, and Helius. South Hall
3. Technologies for Worship. The conference-within-a-conference has hands-on training and a live stage. Conference and pavilion participants include Aviom, Barco, Bose, Eiki, ProPresenter, and Yamaha. Central Lobby
4. Cable Management. BTX Technologies plans to unveil its new ProBlox system, which combines 16 coax and 26 audio/data/control contacts in one multiconnector. The system is custom configurable for combinations of VGA, component, composite, balanced, and unbalanced audio, data, and control signals. It offers 75-ohm video contacts for a true HD signal. 5.Video Realism. At the Technologies for Worship pavilion, Barco will present a contemporary multiprojector display application with center- and dual-side screens. It will also use its new NH-12 projection system with image warping capabilities, to display a worship production on a curved screen. Three Barco NH-12s, delivering 36,000 lumens, will blend together to deliver a color-matched, high-contrast, triple 1080p HD experience. Booth C9745
6. Audio Processing. Linear Acoustic will show its next-generation Aeromax 5.1-XL 10-channel TV audio processor, StreamStacker-HD high-density audio distribution system, and MetaMax LA-5180 audio metadata frame synchronizer and generator. The new Aeromax accepts 5.1 network audio, two-channel local audio, and digital or analog auxiliary/EAS stereo audio. 7. Signal Management. Triveni Digital, a subsidiary of LG Electronics, is debuting its new StreamScope Enterprise Monitor (EM-40), for detecting, localizing, analyzing, isolating, and remedying faults that impact video services. 8. Video Processing. Christie Digital Systems plans to display the fruits of its 2007 acquisition of Vista Control Systems, including the Vista Spyder family of video processors. Models are packaged as 2RU or 3RU units, and installers can configure them to support up to 32 inputs and 32 outputs. Booth SL6113
9. Video Production. Panasonic’s new 120 Hz 17-inch BT-LH1760 production LCD monitors offers wide off-axis viewing and color reproduction, plus improved motion and latency handling. With a new In-Plane Switching (IPS) panel and 1280 x 768–pixel native resolution, the LH1760 offers twice the response speed of many other professional LCD monitors so images appear clear and precise. 10. Multimedia Cabling. Wireworks will use NAB to introduce its new AV2000 HD/SDI MultiMedia Cabling, combining audio, high-definition video, serial digital interface, data, and control signals through a single hybrid connector that replaces many individual connectors. Booth C7924
11. Audio Distribution. Aviom plans to introduce the latest addition to its Pro64 Series of audio distribution products, the 6416m Mic Input Module. The company will also debut the 6416m’s companion products, the RCI Remote Control Interface and the MCS Mic Control Surface. The 6416m adds 16 remote-controllable, mic-level inputs to a Pro64 audio network. Each channel on the 6416m has a continuously variable gain setting, multisegment signal level LEDs, and individual channel on/off switches. It supports all valid Pro64 sample rates. Booth N8236
