Glowpoint Rolls Out Telepresence Service

Glowpoint has announced a new interoperability service that allows businesses to connect Cisco TelePresence Rooms with standards-based telepresence and traditional videoconferencing systems that were formerly incompatible. Defined by the company as “interoperability as a service” (IaaS), the service is now available upon request to worldwide, according to Glowpoint.
Glowpoint’s service aims to provide a solution for organizations deciding which telepresence system to deploy: Cisco, Polycom, Tandberg, LifeSize, or another. It is also intended to help businesses drive wider adoption and increased usage of their video communications systems. According to the company, this service further complements Glowpoint’s current suite of managed video and business-to-business (B2B) services and may be used in conjunction or independently.
“Now, with increasing expectations and business demand for video communications, we are able to offer a solution that breaks down the barriers that have emerged between various telepresence and videoconferencing technologies, especially regarding Cisco’s current version of telepresence,” said Glowpoint president and co-CEO Joe Laezza in a statement.
“We successfully conducted a multipoint interop call for a multibillion-dollar company that wanted to connect Cisco TelePresence with Polycom telepresence, as well as a Tandberg HD videoconferencing system, from locations in different continents on disparate IP networks,” said Howard Reingold, Glowpoint’s director of product management, in a statement. “We achieved this by using Glowpoint’s TEN B2B exchange, combined with our interop service, managed by our VNOC service team.”
Glowpoint will hold live demonstrations of its IaaS at an upcoming open house in New York. Company officials say information regarding the event and availability of IaaS will be released in coming weeks.
