Matrox has announced the Monarch HD, a video streaming and recording appliance. The Monarch HD can simultaneously stream a live event and record a Blu-ray quality version for post-event editing by providing two independent delivery channels. From any HDMI input source, the appliance generates an H.264-encoded stream compliant with RTSP or RTMP protocol. While encoding the video at bitrates suitable for live streaming, the Monarch HD records an MP4 file to an SD card, a USB drive, or a network-mapped drive.
