Alcons SR9 Ribbon-fill Loudspeaker Provides Wide Coverage

After a number of previews at international shows in recent months, Alcons is now shipping the SR9.

The SR9 is a passive two-way ultra-compact loudspeaker specifically designed for applications where ultimate fidelity response needs to be projected with wide horizontal and precise vertical coverage. Typical (short- to medium-throw) applications for the SR9 range from low-profile stage-lip/front-fill to upper-/under-balcony, up to “stealth-mounted” systems in stair risers or walls.

The SR9 combines remarkable clarity and intelligibility with high SPL. Loaded with the RBN401 pro-ribbon driver, with its patented horizontally controlled dispersion and 800W peak power handling, the SR9 system features 120-degree horizontal coverage with a quick transient response for unsurpassed intelligibility and a dynamic digital response.

The narrow 15-degree vertical coverage offers maximum gain before feedback directly above (on stage) or under (orchestra pit) the speaker. The double 5in. woofers are non-vented for a smooth low-end rolloff. This sealed-box tuning enables easily adjustable low-frequency response.

The extremely low height and shallow depth, combined with the specially recessed connector plate, make the SR9 fit inconspicuously in virtually any show deck space; the speaker can be placed on stage or mounted under balcony with minimal sightline obstruction.

For full system performance, the SR9 shall be used in combination with an ALCcontroller amplifier, offering several advantages. For instance, the passive system includes dedicated crossover filtering, but system equalizing is done remotely (electronically) in the ALC, fully using the individual speaker components’ output capacity. This results in an increased headroom SPL of 6dB above 800Hz.

The SignalIntegritySensing pre-wiring ensures complete cable/connector compensation between the SR9 and ALC, resulting in a tight and accurate low-mid response, while also significantly reducing linear and nonlinear distortion.

A special multi-application bracket is available that enables floor/stage stand with full projection adjustability, as well as wall- and ceiling-mount and even stand-mount.
