INFOCOMM INTERNATIONAL
2006 MARKET FORECAST SURVEY
For the fourth year in a row, InfoComm International has issued a market forecast survey designed to provide in-depth information to enable audiovisual companies to make informed business decisions.
Prepared by AWP Research, the 2006 InfoComm Market Forecast Survey called on rental and staging companies, independent design consultants, systems integrators, distributors, dealers, and other key players to take a detailed look at industry trends.
The survey predicts dramatic growth in the audiovisual industry in both Europe and North America between 2005 and 2006. According to the forecast, revenue for surveyed North American companies is expected to grow by 40 percent in 2006 and revenue for surveyed European AV companies by 10.7 percent. The driving force behind the growth is the increased demand for networked AV products due to the integration of AV and IT. This marks the fourth year in a row that significant growth was projected for the AV industry.
“The global AV marketplace has never been stronger,” says Randal A. Lemke, Ph.D., executive director of InfoComm International. “The demand for streaming media, webcasting, digital signal processing, wireless applications, and AV-related software has increased dramatically worldwide.”
The 2006 InfoComm Market Forecast Survey also reveals that the leading markets for AV equipment in North America and Europe are business/IT and education. However, a substantial difference is evident when comparing North America’s and Europe’s remaining major markets. North America’s remaining major markets in order of sales are government and military; sports, entertainment, and hospitality; healthcare; and worship. Europe’s remaining major markets in order of sales are residential; retail and sales; sports, entertainment, and hospitality; and government and military.
Customers on both sides of the Atlantic cite similar benefits of AV, including its ability to provide business tools needed for day-to-day activities, enhance communication between internal and external audiences, increase efficiency (and save time and money as a result), and provide a more effective learning environment.
The technology trends with the greatest impact on the AV industry include integration of AV systems into the customers’ IT networks; increased use of conferencing and collaboration; growing use of digital signage, content aggregation, and content management; and the acceptance of high-definition technology.
The 2006 Market Forecast Survey covers trends in the North American and European audiovisual industries. To order a copy, visit www.infocomm.org. For more information, contact [email protected].

NSCA
ENROLLMENT IN 2006 EXPO EDUCATION UP 15 PERCENT
Left to right: Chuck Wilson, NSCA executive director; Brian Setzer; Larry Italia, VP/GM Yamaha Commercial Audio; Randy Vaughan, president, NSCA board of directors
Once again leading the way in education, NSCA gained 15 percent in enrollment at its 2006 Expo compared to 2005 Expo registration. In response to the need for education for all electronic systems professionals, NSCA University launched the new Certificate of Completion Program (CCP) and college structure, which comprised six new colleges: Project Management, Business, System Design, System Sales, Technical Knowledge, and Allied Professionals. More than 23 percent of the courses and seminars were sold out.
MEMBERSHIP HAS ITS PRIVILEGES
The number of NSCA members in attendance at this year’s expo was nearly double that of last year. The Membership Luncheon/Annual Meeting was filled to capacity as members voted on two new additions to the board of directors, and a new executive committee. Ray Bailey of Lone Star Communications in Grand Prairie, Texas, and Dean Reece of RFI Enterprises in San Jose, Calif., were selected as board members. Officers for 2006 are:
- Nancy Emerson, President
- Andy Musci, Vice President
- Ron Pusey, Treasurer
- James Beckham, Secretary
- Randy Vaughan, Immediate Past President
NEW FACES IN VEGAS
As available exhibit floor space continues to grow, so does the number of audience segments attending the expo. In addition to the typical integrator/buyer touting an average of $2.6 million in annual product purchase for resale, exhibitors saw a greater number of consultants, architects, houses of worship professionals, and leaders in systems for Las Vegas entertainment and hospitality on the show floor this year. Specific programs designed to meet the needs of allied professionals in systems integration drew many potential business partners for exhibitors.
EXPO NIGHTLIFE
Noted as the best expo entertainment yet, 2006 will go down in the books with some amazing events. The Brian Setzer Orchestra delivered an electrifying performance at ExpoJam, sponsored by Yamaha Commercial Audio, Shure, and ProAV. And The Drunk Unkles gave an unforgettable performance on St. Patrick’s Day to raise money for the NSCA Education Foundation. The group packed The Beach nightclub with expo attendees and locals for a mesmerizing night of esoteric blues. Thank you to all who sponsored this event: Ace Communications, AMX, D&M Professional, Endeleo Managed Technologies, Extron, FSR, Harman Pro Group, Liberty Wire & Cable, Middle Atlantic Products, NEC, Onstage Audio, Polycom, Shure, and SPL Integrated Systems.
And we would like to extend a special thank you to all attendees at NSCA Expo 2006. Thank you for coming, and for bringing additional staff members from your organization.

CEDIA
ENTER THE ELECTRONIC LIFESTYLES AWARDS TODAY!
Deadlines are fast approaching to turn in your entry for this year’s Electronic Lifestyles Awards. The awards are given in the areas of design and manufacturing, as well as for Installer and Dealer of the Year.
DESIGNERS’ AWARDS
Categories include Large Home Theater, Small Home Theater (New), Theme Theater (New), Media Room, Integrated Home, Special Project, Hidden Installation, and Dressed System. Visit www.cedia.org/awards for category-specific information.
INSTALLER OF THE YEAR
This “In the Trenches” award will be given to an installer who exemplifies a strong work ethic, has the desire to further his or her education in the field of custom installation, and goes the extra mile to make our industry the driving force in cutting-edge technology.
DEALER OF THE YEAR
The CEDIA Dealer of the Year Award is given to the residential electronic systems contractor member of CEDIA that represents the best of CEDIA in the following areas: company structure, professionalism, profitability, growth, recognition in the industry, service to the industry, service to the community, and overall success.
MANUFACTURERS’ EXCELLENCE AWARDS
Enter to win one of five Best New Product awards. All entries are judged by a qualified panel made up of active CEDIA residential electronic systems contractors.
Judges will be looking for the products that most enhance a CEDIA residential electronic systems professional’s business. This could be a revolutionary new technology, a software program that allows a systems professional’s business to run more efficiently, a widget that makes an installer’s life less stressful — or anything in between.
The important factor is that an entry innovates in a way that makes the life of industry professionals better.
For complete guidelines and to register for the Electronic Lifestyles Awards visit www.cedia.org/awards. Questions? Contact CEDIA at (800) 669-5329.
