INFOCOMM INTERNATIONAL

SIGHTS AND SOUNDS TO EXPECT AT THE LARGEST INFOCOMM EVER

InfoComm International is preparing the largest InfoComm ever. InfoComm expects an increase to 775 exhibitors from 725 in 2005. Floor space at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla., will surpass 425,000 square feet. This promises tired feet, but invigorated ideas as attendees review the latest AV and information technologies.

So what’s new and exciting this year? Audiophiles will have a full agenda with a dozen audio demo rooms. These demos are planned by top manufacturers, including Harman Pro Group, Renkus-Heinz, Tannoy, and Telex Communications. With more than 250 companies devoted to sound technology on the InfoComm show floor, audio alone could take a half-day of exploration.

For serious sound professionals, Syn-Aud-Con returns with a four-day pre-show conference, along with more than 20 InfoComm Academy courses. A workshop entitled “Loudspeaker and Speech Intelligibility” is being offered by Technology Visions. And the opening InfoComm Party on June 6 will feature concert-quality equipment showing off the talents of The Smithereens.

Prior to the party, the InfoComm Rental & Staging Council is promoting a job-shadowing program for people wanting to learn how such events are produced. And after the Infocomm Party, various sponsoring audio companies plan to demo their gear throughout the remainder of the show.

One of the most compelling reasons to attend InfoComm is that it’s not just audio, or video, or lighting, or control — it’s all of these and much more. In the last few years, InfoComm has developed as the top integrated systems show for anyone involved or interested in AV. Sound, video, and displays are only half of the experience.

InfoComm’s exhibit pavilions enable one to focus on specifics: Collaborative Conferencing, sponsored by IMCCA and ConferencingNews.com; Digital Content Creation, sponsored by Prism Business Media’s Sound & Video Contractor and Video Systems magazines; Digital Signage; Residential Systems; and Lighting and Staging, sponsored by Lighting & Sound America.

An interesting recent development is recognition of the critical role that independent programmers play in designing easy-to-use control panels. This year, show sponsor Crestron is hosting an Independent Programmers Showcase, enabling attendees to explore a gallery of touch panel graphical user interfaces (GUIs).

At the InfoComm Large Venue Display Gallery (sponsored by show sponsor Extron), look forward to a focus on D-Cinema and Surround Sound. And for anyone interested in AV in education, EduComm, a co-located conference produced by University Business and District Administration magazines, has also created The Classroom of Tomorrow, a special exhibit on the show floor augmenting the EduComm three-day event.

These are just a few of the many exciting activities planned for this year. For a detailed description of other events, as well as the 250 courses, manufacturers’ training sessions, and AV technology tours, visit infocommshow.org. In the meantime, mark the dates June 3-9, 2006, on your calendar to make sure you can attend as much of InfoComm week as possible.

InfoComm is a must-see event every June. Don’t miss this exciting show. You won’t be disappointed.
