Equator Audio Research is now shipping its new Q18S subwoofer, a low-frequency complement to the Audio Q series of studio reference monitors.

The subwoofer measures 29 x 25 x25 inches and features an 18-inch transducer with a heavy-duty 4-inch voice coil in a bass reflex enclosure. Well suited for music applications as well as sound effects work for TV and film, the Q18S sports a black/micro-metallic gray finish on an enclosure made of ¾-inch, 13-ply Baltic Birch for cabinet rigidity. Additionally, the subwoofer’s baffle is constructed from 1-inch, high-density fiberboard (HDF).

With a 4-ohm system, the self-powered Q18S is driven by 2000 watts of peak power and features a down-firing system with a bell-shaped base that allows the subwoofer to reproduce frequencies down to 16 Hz. An RS-485 in/thru interface and a USB connector enable Equator Audio’s room compensation and control software to communicate with multiple Q series monitors and subwoofers in order to adjust crossover points, EQ curves, and a variety of other functions.

“The Q18S is the perfect complement to the entire Q series monitor line and is designed and built to the same standards as our reference monitors,” said Ted Keffalo, president of Equator Audio Research, in a statement. “At 160 pounds, this is a very solidly engineered sub bass system.”

The Q18S has an MSRP of $5,000 and is currently available through authorized Equator Audio Research sellers.
