Despite the growing importnace of IT in the pro AV world, almost one-quarter of AV staff lack any formal IT training. This was one of the interesting findings from a recent online survey conducted by Pro AV magazine and InfoComm International, which focused this month on issues related to finding, keeping, and training AV personnel.

Our survey included a variety of firm types, including AV systems integrators, consultants, dealers, manufacturers, and technology end users. Surprisingly, the results did not vary significantly by organization, so our results include all of them. However, more than one-third, 36 percent, of responses came from AV systems integrators.

Aside from the numbers, our survey allowed for write-in responses, letting people express their greatest concerns about hiring qualified staff. A full 50 percent of respondents took advantage of the opportunity to share their opinions. Most concerns centered on importance of that word “qualified,” as well as organizational “fit.”
