Leitch Technology Corporation announced a major sale of broadcast solutions to Craig Broadcast Systems Inc. for installation in a digital playout in Calgary, Alberta, from which Craig launched MTV Canada on October 18, 2001. The new facility was built to facilitate the partnership between Craig and MTV Networks to launch an English language services of MTV, MTV2 and other niche genre music channels, as well as TV Land. The core of the installation uses the Leitch VR440 multiformat server. And the Opus master control switcher, along with various other conversion and interface products from the Digital Glue line, rounds out the system.

Leitch has also announced that its VR300 server systems made it to the Superbowl in New Orleans, to assist the Rams’ coaches. When the St. Louis Rams faced the New England Patriots at the Super Dome, Leitch was there: the Rams’ coaching staff had all the games played by the Patriots this season loaded onto Leitch VR300 series M-JPEG video servers and sent to New Orleans for training purposes. Though the Patriots went home as NFC champions, you can’t say the Rams weren’t prepared. Leitch products were working hard to provide the Rams with direct and random access to clips of those previous games.
