In a recent newsletter, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman let it slip that Apple will be unveiling a monitor that, like its Studio Display, runs on an iPhone chip. Unlike the Studio Display, however, this monitor will be able to function independently of the Mac it is connected to.

Gurman reports that the upcoming display will remain powered on when the Mac is turned off, turning into a sort of smart home display. Current speculation of the upcoming display is that it will run on Apple’s A16 silicon chip, introduced in the iPhone 14 Pro, as that model introduced the always-on display feature. Similarly, the upcoming StandBy feature coming to iOS later this year will see iPhones be able to function as smart displays when plugged into a power source.
