Apple reportedly aiming for BT.2020 in upcoming OLED products

Future OLED products from Apple would bring far greater color accuracy

A new report by TrendForce alleges that Apple is moving beyond DCI-P3 colors to embrace BT.2020 in upcoming OLED products.

“TrendForce’s latest AMOLED technology and market report reveals that Apple plans to gradually adopt OLED panels capable of achieving 95% coverage of the BT.2020 color gamut across future MacBook Pro, iPad Pro, and iMac product lines,” says TrendForce.

Industry studies show that 95% BT.2020 coverage is identical to 100% BT.2020 to the human eye due to it fully encompassing every naturally occurring color found in real-world objects, a spectrum known as Pointer’s Gamut. For comparison, DCI-P3 covers approximately 73% of Pointer’s Gamut, meaning the next evolution in Apple’s OLED products would bring a significant leap in color reproduction and accuracy.
