Asus’ upcoming gaming glasses give users a 171-inch virtual display

The Asus ROG Xreal R1 double the refresh rate of its predecessor

Asus has revealed a ROG edition of its gaming glasses that boast twice the refresh rate of its predecessor. Like the company’s One Pro glasses, the Asus ROG Xreal R1 glasses feature 1080p Micro-OLED that give wearers access to a 171inch virtual display. The virtual display has a 57-degree field of view, and Asus claims a .01-ms response time. For audio, the glasses’ integrated speakers feature Bose-tuned sound.

Impressively, the ROG Xreal R1 glasses have a refresh rate of 240 Hz, making them the quickest glasses of their kind on the market. Users can lock the virtual display in a fixed position, or utilize tracking technology to have the display follow their eyes. Asus says that the glasses will enable instant 2D-to-3D conversion, but no further details have been made available on that front.

The glasses ship with a docking station that can connect to other devices via USB-C, two HDMI 2.0 ports, and a DisplayPort 1.4 port.

The R1 glasses are available for preorder for $849, with orders scheduled to begin shipping June 1.
