WATCH: Google Pixel 8 Pro teardown

While similar to last year's Pixel 7 Pro, the new model takes advantage of stronger cooling and more robust support from Google

With Google’s Pixel 8 Pro just hitting store shelves, the repair gurus at iFixit have posted their teardown of the device. While the interior and construction of the phone are nearly identical to last year’s Pixel 7 Pro, there are a few key differences. Most notably, the graphite cooling pad has seen a large increase in size to help keep the new Tensor G3 chipset from overheating.

While the Pixel 8 Pro is still held together by lots of glue, iFixit notes that the adhesive layers holding the components together is still easier to get through than the iPhone 15 Pro Max. Perhaps most importantly to the repair-minded, however, is Google’s bumping up the support cycle for the phone up to seven years. Unlike the iPhone, there’s also no parts matching software to limit the phone’s repairability, so this, combined with iFixit and Google’s parts partnership, should see the phone last for quite some time.
