Kaleidescape launches 8K-certified movie player

Featuring 8K support and a high-bitrate '4K Cinematic' mode

The Kaleidescape Strato K is the company’s newest flagship media player, and the first with support for 8K content. It also happens to be the first movie player certified by the 8K Association, and supports 8K playback in SDR and HDR10. An HDMI 2.1 port supports 8K output up to 30fps.

“Kaleidescape’s Strato K is the world’s highest-fidelity movie player,” said Tayloe Stansbury, chairman & CEO of Kaleidescape. “It brings movie lovers closer to the filmmaker’s intent, with cleaner detail, true-to-life color, and a more natural presentation that dramatically improves the viewing experience of any display.”

The Strato K also features a ‘4K Cinematic’ format, which offers full chroma up to 4:4:4, and at a high bitrate for less compression and enhanced image quality. Films in this format feature an average bitrate of 110Mbps (HEVC), up from an average of 75Mbps for standard 4K titles. For comparison, UHD Blu-ray discs have an average bitrate of 60Mbps, according to Kaleidescape.

The Kaleidescape Strato K ships with a one-terabite internal SSD, and can be grouped with one or more Kaleidescape Terra movie servers for greater storage options.
