Just a week after news broke of some of Samsung’s TV offerings this year will be subject to a panel lottery, it seems LG will be implementing a similar strategy with upcoming units of its premium LCD TV.
LG confirmed at an event in Frankfurt, Germany last week that it will be switching from its own IPS LCD panel to the more popular VA LCD panel in several of its 2024 TVs, including its QNED90T/QNED91T line. When asked by FlatPanelsHD, LG revealed it would be utilizing IPS LCD panels as well as VA LCD panels in models of the line, depending on the display size and region of release. Unfortunately, LG is not disclosing which panel will be used in which TV, other than the fact that any 86″ unit will always have an IPS panel.

This, much like the Samsung panel lottery before it, will leave consumers guessing and crossing their fingers as to which panel type they will be receiving. There are notable differences between the two panel types, with IPS panels having a wider viewing angle but significantly less contrast than their VA counterparts. VA LCD panels, while having a narrower viewing angle, are the vastly more popular option among LCD displays today.
