NBC to use AI-generated version of Jim Fagan’s voice during NBA broadcasts

Fagan was known for his voiceover work on NBA broadcasts from 1990 to 2002

NBC will be resurrecting an iconic voice of 90’s sports in NBA broadcasts beginning this October. The company has announced that it will be using an AI-generated voice of deceased announcer Jim Fagan on upcoming NBA broadcast opens and promos. Fagan, who died in 2017, was known for his narration of NBC’s NBA broadcasts from 1990 to 2002.

“For many basketball fans, Jim’s unique and recognizable voice immediately conjures a deep sense of nostalgia for a special time in NBA history,” says President of NBC Sports Rick Cordella. “His voice perfectly captured the magnitude of the heavyweight matchups and stars that he was introducing. It’s been a joy to work with Jim’s family to re-create his voice and honor his legacy. I’m excited we’re able to introduce his voice to a whole new generation of fans.”
