Quantum dot supplier Nanosys has unveiled that QD-OLED panels will be getting brighter in 2026, while next-gen QDEL technology is slated to be released in 2029. These plans were revealed in the company’s interview with Insight Media.
“Also this year, we’re launching a new version of QDCC – that’s Quantum Dot Color Conversion,” Head of Marketing at Nanosys Jeff Yurek told Insight Media. “These are the inks used in things like QD-OLED type of products. We have a new version of that material this year that we were able to collaborate on with an ink maker to improve the brightness and the performance of the QDCC material. So you are seeing some new QD-OLED TVs this year with much higher brightness.”
Longer-term goals of Nanosys include microLED displays, an emerging technology that has been popular for immersive wearable applications.
“By 2030, we want to ship what we consider truly ‘high flux’,” commented Yurek. “Now we are talking about not just QD-OLED but maybe microLED for something like an AR application, which would require hundreds of thousands or maybe a millions or more nits.”
“And last and perhaps most interest to people is QDEL. We think 2029 is a reasonable target for when we’ll start to see those in the market. That is QD electroluminescent displays,” concluded Yurek.
