Samsung launched its initial QLED line in 2017, but reports are now coming in that the technology will be largely abandoned by the company due to low sales.
Korean publication ETNews is reporting that this year’s production will be cut to 2-3 million units, down from 10 million. It goes on to state that it is possible that Samsung will eliminate the line completely by 2028.
The 80% production cut in the coming year will allow Samsung to allocate resources towards its OLED and Micro RGB lines. Some Neo QLED LCD TVs are still in production, but the company’s standard QLED models have already been discontinued.
“Samsung Electronics’ QD TV shipment plan this year has been significantly reduced to less than 30%,” reports ETNews. “Neo QLED will also produce only half of this year next year and gradually stop manufacturing.”
