The Oriental Land Co., owner and operator of Tokyo Disneyland, has announced the the new version of Space Mountain will be called Space Mountain Earthrise.
“The ‘Earthrise’ in Space Mountain Earthrise refers to the sight of Earth from space as it rises from beyond the Moon’s beauty and preciousness of Earth as an unparalleled existence within the universe and is a concept unique to Japan among Space Mountain attractions at Disney theme parks worldwide,” the park said of the upcoming coaster. “Through an exciting and captivating cosmic voyage, guests will explore the mysteries of the vast universe, and as they do, rediscover the beauty of our planet and be instilled with hope for tomorrow.”
Disney patents new projection mapping system
The dark coaster will feature new space-themed lighting and sound effects, with the park noting that Space Mountain Earthrise will feature “brand new architecture
and a newly developed ride system.”
The new coaster is set for a 2027 launch, with construction already underway behind the park’s previous Space Mountain site.
