Not content to rest on the laurels of its new roll-out display laptop, Lenovo is continuing to experiment in the world of unique laptop displays. The company debuted the ThinkBook VertiFlex, previously known as Project Pivo, at this year’s IFA in Berlin. The laptop, still a concept model, utilizes a 14-inch screen that can freely rotate independent of the lid via a hidden hinge, allowing users to switch between landscape and portrait orientation on the fly.
Despite housing a display that is separate from its lid, the laptop measures just shy of 18mm thick. Lenovo positions the concept as being ideal for coders and other professions that could benefit from more vertical real estate on their displays. The company also noted that a Smart Connect feature allows the laptop to tether to a phone, allowing the vertical display to mirror the phone’s. While it’s only a concept model at this time, the ThinkBook VertiFlex could still make the jump to real-world production as evidenced by the ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 Rollable.
