Woman sues Disney for $2 million over ‘mammoth wave’

Walt Disney Parks and Resorts is being sued for $2 million by a mother who reportedly suffered injuries at Typhoon Lagoon in 2022. Part of the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida, Typhoon Lagoon is a water park featuring one of the world’s largest outdoor wave pools. According to the lawsuit, filed April 11th, Kimberly Panetta was “violently” struck by a “mammoth wave” while waiting for her daughter to come down a slide.

The lawsuit notes that the incident occurred not at one of the park’s wave pools, but instead in the “kiddie area.” Panetta alleges that she suffered permanent injuries and scarring as a result of the impact.

“Panetta, prior to this accident or incident, would be able to wear clothing that exposed her legs, now keeps her legs covered and must tolerate being hot and uncomfortable as a result thereof,” reads the lawsuit. “As a result of this incident, (Panetta’s) vacation was ruined, and she was stuck limping around applying bandages, salves and creams, and was forced to avoid swimming and enjoying planned visits to the parks.”

Panetta’s attorneys claim that she continues to suffer financial loss as a result of the incident, and is suing Disney for negligence.
