Savant Introduces High-Bandwidth Controller

Savant Systems announced a new controller called the MCS-24SE, a high-bandwidth controller that provides up to 24×24 1080p HD video switching or up to 48×48 audio-only switching in a 6U form factor.
Company officials said the MCS-24SE will drive up to 12 of Savant’s on-screen display user interfaces and offers installers flexibility through six universal input/output slots that can accommodate any audio or video source. Further integration enhancements include a new chassis configuration featuring front panel LED indicators and removable faceplates for easy access to optional hot-swappable, redundant power supplies and field-replaceable fans, increasing ease of maintenance and overall reliability for commercial applications.
According to Savant, the MCS-24SE is modular and flexible, featuring an integrated controller with 25 control ports plus slots for additional service cards to accommodate the changing needs of each customer. An optional master host controller provides iTunes digital media server capabilities when paired with the MSC-24SE, and optional redundant host controllers are offered for high reliability.
“We envision the MCS-24SE as a highly cost competitive solution,” said Savant president Jim Carroll, in a statement. “This device has been engineered for extreme flexibility and reliability, enabling integrators to become reliant on this single platform across numerous vertical markets. With the base video processing and audio distribution capabilities of this product plus iPad-based control, the MCS-24SE will provide our dealers with a distinct competitive advantage.”
The MSC-24SE can provide audio processing and distribution by adding optional surround sound or stereo input and output modules (unbalanced or balanced). The MSC-24SE can support up to 48 stereo audio zones in a single solution. The audio processing module supports surround sound decoding and matrix processing, including Dolby and DTS decoders. The digital preamplifier stage features 16 independent channels, of which eight are designed to provide multi-channel sound in one zone, while the other eight feed an additional four stereo zones.
