StarTech.com USA LLP announced a Long Range DVI Extender, the DVIEXTFIBLC. The product enables users to operate DVI-compliant displays from distances of up to 500 meters, or 1650 feet, using a computer or other signal source. With the help of industry-standard fiber optic cabling, users can run their remote displays at high resolutions and refresh rates with little or no loss of picture quality, to a maximum of 1600×1200 pixels at a 60Hz refresh rate.

Perfect for houses of worship, schools, conference centers, and more, the Long Range DVI Extender can run a remote display without sacrificing any of the quality of a DVI interface. The Long Range DVI Extender offers an outstanding picture, simple installation, and ease of use.

The Long Range DVI Extender is compatible with PCs, Macs, and HDTV systems, and is designed to match the capabilities of any display. The product is a pure hardware solution. No special software or drivers are required. The hot-pluggable unit can be turned on and connected at any time, and will immediately begin displaying the picture.

“With our Long Range DVI Extender, it’s easy to connect a computer display at long distances and show an eye-catching presentation to a large audience,” said Andrew Stephen, VP of Marketing for StarTech.com. “The solution is compatible with a wide range of hardware and makes a big impression on viewers.”

Regular DVI cables can reach a maximum length of only 5 meters, but this distance barrier can be broken simply by using Cat 5 and fiber cabling. Using this little-known innovation, StarTech.com offers barrier-breaking extenders that lengthen DVI display range considerably. The range using Cat 5 UTP cable is 330 feet (100 meters), while the range using multimode fiber is 1650 feet (500 meters).

The Long Range DVI Extender works extremely well in a wide variety of situations, including security monitoring, at hospital nurses’ stations and operating rooms, and in classroom lectures and presentations. The product is also very handy in airports, train stations, and bus terminals, in tradeshow booth displays, and for manufacturing process control and monitoring. It’s ideal for video broadcasting situations, such as in a control room and for feed selection and monitoring. In point of sale environments, such as retail stores, the unit does a great job of connecting video display banks.

The Long Range DVI Extender supports UXGA resolutions of up to 1600 x 1200 pixels at 60 Hz and is designed to match the capabilities of any display and any resolution below that. The compact unit, with its steel enclosure, measures only 107 x 80 x 26 mm and weighs just 0.6 lbs (0.3 kg). The unit includes a convenient DVI-D dual-link female connector, an RJ45 female connector, and a fiber optic LC female connector.

The Long Range DVI Extender is available for an MSRP of $1,241 from StarTech.com or leading retailers such as CDW, Buy.com, PC Connection, Insight, and Computers4SURE. The unit is backed by a one-year warranty. For more information on StarTech.com products, visit its website at www.startech.com.
