CVP to present the Lens Coverage and Camera Comparison tool at Pacific Northwest Lens Summit

Technical Consultant Sam Measure to deliver the most detailed Lens Coverage and Camera Comparison tool at Lens Summit, Portland Oregon

CVP, one of Europe’s leading production solutions providers, has confirmed Technical Consultant Sam Measure will present the unique Lens Coverage and Comparison Online tool at the Pacific Northwest Lens Summit which takes place on Friday 3rd and Saturday 4th May 2024 at Koerner Rental in Portland Oregon, USA.

The annual Lens Summit was curated specifically for cinema optics, and has been running since 2017. It was the incarnation of an idea: What if there was a smaller, more focused event just for cinema optics, without the often overwhelming nature of a larger tradeshow? It now runs on alternate years as European Lens Summit – with European reseller CVP – and Pacific Northwest Lens Summit – with USA reseller CVP Koerner Camera.

Sam Measure, Technical Consultant and one of the designers behind the “Lens Coverage and Camera Comparison Tool” will present its capabilities, offering insights into the comprehensive yet easy-to-use web-based tool. The tool offers a free visual representation of a lens’ coverage when paired with various sensor formats, giving filmmakers a first indication of the camera equipment that may – or may not – suit their project.

The resource was created in response to regular enquiries to CVP’s Technical Consultants around a variation on the question, “Will this lens work with that sensor?”. The result was the creation of a useful visual database as an initial guide to show how a particular lens will work with a particular camera – or to compare coverage of 2 different formats using the same lens.

The Lens Tool database is continually being developed and updated, and the combinations presented are vast, with hundreds of thousands of available variations. For every focal length, the tool can illustrate coverage at either wide open or stopped down, both at close focus or at infinity.

The Lens Coverage and Camera Comparison Tool offers the following practical information in a visual format:

  • Checking whether a lens covers a sensor format
  • Comparing field of view for a lens on a given sensor format
  • Comparing sensor data
  • Accessing lens data
  • Seeing how to match a B camera to an A camera
