Dirac VR Named ‘Best Virtual Reality Industry Technology’ at the 2017 TechXLR8 Awards

This award comes on the heels of a Q1 2017 VR initiative fundraising round of over $5.1 million USD and a key appointment to the company’s board of directors.

UPPSALA, SWEDEN, June 15, 2017 —  Furthering its success across the virtual reality landscape, Dirac VR, a breakthrough 3D audio solution developed by Sweden’s Dirac Research, was just named the “Best Virtual Reality Industry Technology” at the 2017 TechXLR8 Awards. As London Tech Week’s flagship show, TechXLR8, which runs from June 13-15, recognizes excellence and outstanding contributions in converging areas of technology and is comprised of various expos including Europe’s #1 VR & AR event – VR & AR World – as well as Internet of Things World Europe and Apps World Europe, amongst others.

“We are thrilled and honored to be named the winner of this award,” said Mathias Johansson, Dirac’s co-founder and CEO. “Recognition from TechXLR8 as the ‘Best Virtual Reality Industry Technology’ for Dirac VR further validates our dedication to delivering a truly immersive VR/ AR experience with our breakthrough solution. More than anything, though, this award acknowledges 3D audio’s critically important role in the future of virtual reality. This is a win for the entire 3D audio industry!”

Marking its official entry into the VR space at CES 2017, Dirac VR is a high-end alternative to existing 3D audio technologies for headphones. It features patent-pending Dynamic HRTFs (head-related transfer functions), which eliminate limitations of existing 3D audio used in VR programming. By considering the isolated movements of the head in relation to the human torso, Dirac VR’s highly sophisticated HRTF measurement process ensures true simultaneous visual and aural immersion for any VR/ AR experience.

“We understand that for virtual reality to become mainstream in both the consumer and commercial markets, certain hurdles need to be overcome – one of which has, historically, been VR audio,” stated Lars Isaksson, Dirac’s Director of VR/ AR. “With Dirac VR, and the acknowledgement of its power and precision by the TechXLR8 judges, we’ve proven that one less barrier stands in the way of mass VR adaptation across nearly all vertical markets.”

The TechXLR8 awards showcase both research and development and solution providers that are leading the way in virtual and augmented reality. The “Best Virtual Reality Industry Technology” category was judged by a panel of esteemed pioneers and experts in the field who selected the winner based on criteria such as unique characteristics of the device, solution, or service and its role within the VR industry, as well as demonstrations of its benefit to its intended audience.

After launching Dirac VR at CES 2017 to rave reviews, Dirac quickly built on its momentum by announcing a VR initiative fundraising round of $4.8million USD, which was immediately followed by receiving a Swedish government research grant of over $250,000 to fund a 3D audio capturing initiative. Coinciding with the Q1 2017 fundraising, Dirac also appointed Jörgen Lantto, acclaimed Swedish technologist and former President and CEO of Fingerprints Cards AB, to its Board of Directors.

Aside from Dirac VR, the company’s suite of audio optimization solutions are currently used by blue chip technology companies in the mobile, automobile, and home theatre markets such as Huawei, Xiaomi, OPPO, Rolls-Royce, Bentley, Volvo, BMW, Datasat, Harman, Pioneer, and many more.
