Recording simultaneous high quality multitrack audio and uncompressed High Definition video has just become much easier thanks to the introduction of the Fairlight Pyxis-MT, a truly versatile audio and video capture, playback and file transfer system with a plethora of useful functions and features.
Billed as a ‘High Definition Swiss Army knife’ for today’s production environments, the Pyxis-MT (which stands for Pyxis Multitrack) combines all the functionality of a fully featured Pyxis HD non linear video recorder with a professional 192 track audio recorder. Simple to use, effective and reliable, the Pyxis MT is the perfect multitrack companion for recording music, live events, ADR, Foley, live theatre sound and live television including sports broadcasting and music concerts. It is also a cost-effective HD VTR for video switcher feeds and can play a useful role onboard Outside Broadcast trucks or as part of a mobile recording unit.
In keeping with Fairlight’s philosophy of always delivering the best possible sound, the Pyxis-MT offers immaculate 24bit/96Khz audio quality and can record up to 96 tracks of pristine sample locked, floating point audio that is perfectly integrated with frame locked uncompressed HD video for both capture and playback. An additional 96 audio tracks are available in the track laying process for track hungry applications.
The system includes Fairlight’s extensive drag and drop file handling capabilities as well as the ability to jog and scrub audio and video in perfect sync. Comprehensive multimedia file import/export options come as standard, as does on board ‘Open’ MADI connectivity.
Pyxis-MT is powered by Fairlight’s Crystal Core (CC-1) engine, an alternative processing platform that delivers increased performance with dramatically lower power consumption. In a world where energy price rises and climate change are major concerns for every responsible business, this technology is proving enormously popular because it performs digital audio and video processing hundreds of times more efficiently than state-of-the-art CPUs or digital signal processors.

Pyxis-MT does not require a Fairlight hardware controller. Instead it operates with a suitably specified host PC and has an application dedicated GUI that is optimized for touch screen or mouse based operation. Optionally, it can optionally be controlled from Frontier Design Group’s new TranzPortâ„¢ wireless remote controller, which allows users to arm tracks, use transport controls, set markers, punch in/out, start loops, and much more from a simple and intuitive interface.
