FOR-A to Feature Cutting Edge Technology Showcase at NAB 2016

New Booth Area Underscores Company’s Theme of “FOR-A World of Possibilities”

Cypress, CA – At the upcoming NAB Show, taking place April 16-19 in Las Vegas, FOR-A will feature a new cutting edge technology showcase in its booth (C5117). Aligning with the company’s NAB theme of “FOR-A World of Possibilities,” the product area will highlight the latest video industry trends, including 4K 2SI, 12G-SDI, High Dynamic Range, Wide- Gamut RGB Color Space and 8K products.

In the 4K 2SI area, FOR-A will display its HVS-2000 video switcher. The unit offers a software option for 4K 2SI signal support that enables switching with less delay than SQD systems and is advantageous in 4K productions. FOR-A has also newly developed a 4K 3D DVE expansion card for the HVS-2000, allowing real time 3D DVE effects in 4K SQD or 2SI – producing the world’s first 2SI 3D DVE! The HVS-2000 features automatic input/output and 4-bus pair switching in 4K mode, which eliminates troublesome 4K system settings and allows for an easy transition to 4K system operation.

FOR-A’s 12G-SDI NAB booth section shows off the direction that the company is headed next. Jay Shinn, Vice President of FOR-A America, explains why FOR-A is focused on the future with 12G-SDI technology: “As 4K use becomes more common, system builds involving surface wiring for 4 x 3G-SDI output are becoming a major issue operationally. With 8K, 16 cables need to be utilized to handle one image – even for FOR-A, and we have many baseband-related products. We feel that this issue needed to be seriously addressed, so we’ve been developing equipment focused on new 12G-SDI technology that’ll benefit our customers. With this technology, users have the ability to transmit 4K video through just one cable.”

Three 12G-SDI enabled products will be displayed in the booth, including the MFR-4000 routing switcher. The unit features a 72×72 matrix and offers 1.5G, 3G, 6G, and 12G-SDI automatic recognition and input/output, as well as a GearBox function that offers 12G interconversion, 2SI and SQD, 3G-SDI and Level-A/B mutual conversion. Another FOR-A product in the 12G-SDI booth area is the MV-4220 multi viewer, which comes standard with 2 inputs and 2 outputs of 12G-SDI or 8 inputs and 8 outputs for SD/HD/3G-SDI. An optional input card can be used to allow a maximum of 5 inputs of 12G-SDI or 20 inputs of SD/HD/3G-SDI. The new FA-9600 signal processor will also be displayed in the 12G-SDI technology area. The unit features 4K frame synchronizing and 12G-SDI and HDMI input/output, along with Dolby-E and MADI audio options, as well as IP and optical interface options.

Another area of FOR-A’s cutting edge technology section will focus on High Dynamic Range (HDR) and Wide Color Gamut (WCG) imaging. Addressing the growing interest in HDR and WCG with the continued increase in popularity of 4K resolution, FOR-A is migrating towards HDR processing technology in the form of (traditional) SDR-inter-conversion technology. For WCG imaging, FOR-A is developing traditional ITU-R BT.709 and new ITU-R BT.2020-standard inter-conversion technologies. In this area, FOR-A will showcase new advances to its FA-505 multi-channel signal processor, including WCG and HDR matrices support and a dynamic range conversion function that allows SDR-to-HDR conversion and vice versa. The company will also introduce its new USF-1044UDC 4K Up/Down/Cross Converter and LMCC-8000 UHDTV 8K signal color gamut/dynamic range converter in this area of the booth.
