HARMAN Professional Solutions to Debut Visually Lossless 4K Ultra HD Video Over Standard Ethernet at ISE 2016

New highly efficient AMX SVSI encoder/decoder solution delivers manageable, cost-effective visually lossless 4K video over standard Ethernet networks

ISE 2016, AMSTERDAM RAI—HARMAN Professional Solutions invites all ISE 2016 attendees to learn about the advantages of using AMX SVSI for the compression of 4K video, and to see for themselves an amazing real-time, side-by-side comparison of AMX Visually Lossless compression technology in action.

“Without a doubt, the widespread deployment of Ultra HD 4K video is inevitable,” said Kevin Deasy, Program Manager, HARMAN Professional Solutions. “Just as 720p was phased out when 1080p became the norm, display manufacturers today are on a fast track to quickly transition to 4K-only systems. But delivering 4K video across a network is challenging. We had to bring Ultra HD bandwidth to a manageable size. Customers need to know that their AV infrastructure will not become obsolete. Being able to deliver Ultra HD 4K compressed video over a standard, 1-gigabit network will insure that this will not happen.”

The high-quality, high-efficiency, JPEG 2000-based Visually Lossless compression used within the AMX SVSI encoders and decoders allows for transport of 4K video over standard layer-3 1Gbps networks and standard 10 – 40Gbps fiber uplinks. This unique AMX SVSI compression advancement helps keep infrastructure costs reasonable and bandwidth budgets manageable, allowing Ultra HD 4K distribution to be practical.

“We’re applying compression to transport over a standard gigabit network, but we’re not sacrificing quality in any way,” added Deasy. “At ISE 2016, we’re showing two 4K displays side by side. One display will show a raw 4K to HDMI signal straight from the source to the monitor, which is as good as it gets. The other display will show that same source 4K signal, but this time through our encoder, over standard cat5 copper, to the decoder — and you CANNOT tell the difference. It looks amazing.”

Product Specifics:

JPEG 2000 4K UHD Video over IP Encoder with KVM

The NMX-ENC-N2151 4K Encoder and NMX-DEC-N2251 4K Decoder provide the same flexible, powerful and scalable solution as the rest of the AMX SVSI N2000 series at resolutions up to 4096×2160. JPEG 2000 compression allows Ultra HD media to be switched and distributed over standard gigabit Ethernet networks. Ultra HD signals from the NMX-ENC-N2151 encoder provided simultaneously as: 1) a JPEG 2000-compressed 200–600 Mbps stream through the RJ-45 connector and 2) an uncompressed stream through the small-form-pluggable (SFP+) connector compatible with fiber or copper. Any source can be sent to any number of displays by routing through layer-3 switches. System scalability is limited only by uplink and stacking connector bandwidths but can accommodate up to 100 Ultra HD video sources at once.

Standard features, like input and output scaling, bi-directional serial, IR, embedded 7.1 audio and KVM-over-IP extension, are included. The NMX-ENC-N2151-C and NMX-DEC-N2251-C form-factors are compatible with the NMX-ACC-N9206 card cage for high-density applications.

COMMON APPLICATIONS:
The NMX-ENC-N2151 is the perfect solution for any low-latency application and video matrix smaller than 32×32. Common applications include classrooms, conference rooms, performing arts spaces and sports bars.

FEATURES:

Output Scaling – Video scaling at output allows seamless switching from any source, at any resolution, to any display or projector, while preserving video fidelity

Infrared (IR) – Infrared emitter connection allows control of low-cost, IR-only display devices

Onboard Control – All N-Series encoders and decoders have onboard, built-in control capability via events that can trigger any number of TCP/UDP commands to other IP controllable devices

Pass-through HDMI interface – Allows easy installation with local display, such as desktop PC applications

Stand Alone or Card – Available as a standalone device or card for use with NMX-ACC-N9206
