The Nest Learning Thermostat is designed to address the reality of home energy consumption: that the thermostat controls about half of the average home’s power—more than appliances, lighting, TVs, computers and stereos combined. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimates that programmable thermostats can save home energy bills up to 20% annually by eliminating excessive heating or cooling.
