Q: Tell us about the partnership between DPA Microphones and Wisycom.
The DPA/Wisycom relationship marked a significant step forward in aligning the strengths of the two brands while preserving their distinct identities. Building on a history of close collaboration, with successful initiatives in marketing and product technology, both companies are dedicated to delivering high-end microphone and wireless solutions to audio professionals. This represents a pairing of two product lines that are considered top-of-class.
Wisycom is a worldwide leader in designing and building the most sophisticated RF solutions for broadcast, film and live production, renowned for durability, flexibility and reliability. Though the brand is still growing its reputation, its solutions can be found on-stage and behind-the-scenes at a wide array of events, such as the Times Square New Year’s Eve Ball Drop and professional auto racing. The brand has also made incredible in-roads on some of the biggest touring stages, including Taylor Swift’s “Eras Tour,” Metallica’s “M72 World Tour,” Jonas Brothers’ “The World Tour” and Blink-182’s “World Tour 2023/2024.”
DPA Microphones is a leading manufacturer of high-quality condenser microphones for professional applications, designing the finest possible solutions for all its markets, including live sound, film, installation, recording, house of worship, theatre and broadcast.
Q: What are some ways this relationship will benefit the AV market?
Wisycom is well-known in the broadcast and live event industries, and as such, its variety of solutions lend perfectly to the AV market. We plan to build off DPA’s legacy in AV to introduce Wisycom, which is a brand of equal quality and value.
In much the same way that facilities have upgraded their microphones to DPA, there’s now another path forward for wireless solutions. Whether it’s wireless mic transmitters and receivers, RF distribution, or even in-ear monitors, there is a definite upgrade for many venues compared to what they might currently be using. So, we want to show them that there’s a better way to do what they are currently doing, to benefit their facility.
Additionally, consolidating North American operations under one roof at DPA’s existing corporate headquarters in Longmont, Colorado, enables us to efficiently leverage shared resources. With the structure currently in place, new and existing Wisycom customers benefit from a well-trained, well-established service department, heightened technical support and an enhanced logistics infrastructure.
Sales and support efforts have also been seamlessly integrated, with DPA’s Area Sales Managers assuming responsibility for driving sales of both brands in their respective territories, while a dedicated U.S.-based Global Sales Support team is in place to aid customers. We also recently added several new wireless team members and will continue to expand our wireless services in the future.
Q: What Wisycom solutions should theaters and other performance facilities consider?
In-ear monitor systems are probably the most important solution for larger facilities that have rock concert caliber productions. Those venues rely on in-ears, and I think the Wisycom wireless in-ear systems will provide a drastic improvement for engineers and performers alike.
For the average-sized venue, the main focus will be more basic, like improving RF performance with distribution and fiber upgrades. Wisycom can provide a significant improvement with its many RF distribution and antenna options, offering theaters a way to make their existing wireless systems work better. This allows them to just update a portion of their equipment, without having to upgrade their entire system.
When it comes to Wisycom solutions that integrate with DPA mics, facilities should look at the wireless microphone systems. Of course, given the interoperability of DPA with all leading wireless systems, it is likely that our existing customers already have a system in place. However, just like DPA, Wisycom products integrate with third-party solutions. So, venues looking to expand or upgrade their wireless microphone systems to accommodate a larger number of performers and speakers will be able to also incorporate high-quality Wisycom solutions, which will further improve their sound.
Q: What’s the latest and greatest from each brand?
Both companies just unveiled brand new solutions at IBC 2024. For DPA, this includes the new 2061 Miniature Omnidirectional Microphone, a solution intended for individuals who work with professional-level sound capture of the voice, in all of its nuances. We launched the 2061 to appeal to audio professionals who are not yet part of the DPA family and are looking to upgrade their audio quality with a crystal-clear, no-frills microphone.
The 2061 offers simplicity, durability and reliability combined with DPA’s natural sound. From broadcast studios and ENG applications to theatres, event venues and houses of worship, the 2061 lavalier is a high-quality, easy-to-use solution that is great for any live or recording application.
On the Wisycom front, we have the new MTH610 Handheld Transmitter, the latest addition to the brand’s Symphony line of products. It is designed for professional wireless microphone applications and features dual-band capability in the 470 to 1260 MHz range, which is essential for venues with global campuses or events that cover a wide range of locations and frequency spectrums based on specific country regulations.
Wisycom developed the MTH610 to fill a need in the live performance industry for a wireless microphone solution that offers flexibility and durability, and the transmitter is perfectly suited to any live sound production, including in broadcast, theatre, concert and house of worship applications.
