Christie’s Vista Systems has unveiled the Christie Vista URS-1608, a universal routing switcher that offers flexibility with a wide variety of input and output formats. Christie official said it eliminates the need for most front-end and back-end boxes, and provides one point of control with a single piece of equipment.

According to the company, the Christie Vista URS-1608 fulfills the need for a format-independent router/switcher in a multiformat world. “Most routing switchers require all sources and destinations to be the same format. If your input source doesn’t match your output display, you need peripheral hardware to process and convert it before the router can do its job,” said Clark Williams, president of Vista Systems, in a statement. “However, this is not the case with the Christie Vista URS-1608. You can do all your processing in the switcher itself and route it to any destination.”

As a matrix switcher that routes and processes, the Christie Vista URS-1608 can reportedly replace a rack of scalers, transcoders, interlacers, aspect-ratio converters, and frame-rate converters with a single device. It handles nearly any input-output combination of computer and video formats, including analog/digital, interlaced/progressive, and high/low resolution. With built-in integrated source monitoring and sophisticated keying, the URS-1608 accepts sources from analog Composite to digital 2560×1600 and routes them to any destination display.

The Christie Vista URS-1608 performs the processing to match the source to the output, including scaling, aspect-ratio, color-space, and frame-rate conversion. Taking signals in any format, it then routes, keys, and layers the signal independently onto any output displays. Built-in source monitoring allows users to monitor all inputs simultaneously in real-time on one output.
