NEC Display Solutions of America announced the addition of the 46-inch MultiSync X461UN ultra-narrow professional display. NEC Display Solutions of America announced the addition of the 46-inch MultiSync X461UN ultra-narrow professional display. The large-format display is intended for video wall solutions, where its narrow bezel is designed to allow for a screen-to-screen distance of 7.3 millimeters between two neighboring MultiSync X461UN displays–a significant improvement over NEC’s previous 34-millimeter MultiSync 20 series displays, according to the company.

The X461UN can be deployed in video wall matrices of up to 10×10, creating a total surface area of approximately 645 square feet.

“When used in a tile matrix, the MultiSync X461UN makes for an attention-grabbing display solution,” said Jean McLaughlin, senior product line manager for NEC Display Solutions, in a statement. “The 46-inch display has been specifically created for rigorous 24/7 use where high reliability is key, and it incorporates a professional-grade panel with a built-in expansion slot, allowing customers flexibility and ease of use.”

The X461UN can be combined with many of NEC’s large-format accessories, such as the MPD-SBC-8/16-2 single-board computer, SB-I008WU DVI daisy-chain module, or SB-L007KK HD-SDI card. The add-ons provide a cost-effect means of sourcing and managing display content, says the company. The accessories’ ability to fully integrate into the X461UN expansion slot eliminates the needs for external distribution equipment and power supply, providing for a clean look that simplifies installation and reduces maintenance.

NEC officials said the ultra-narrow display is well suited for digital signage in lobbies, broadcasting, public venues, retails areas, transportation applications, and financial environments. Tiled displays can have identical color settings via the optional SpectraView IIT color calibration kit, ensuring color uniformity and fidelity across multiple screens and creating a well matched image in tiled environments. NEC’s new Network Control and Communication feature enables remote display management and includes features such as automatic e-mail notification that alerts users to instances like overheating and lamp failure.

In addition to a narrow bezel, the MultiSync X461UN includes a professional-grade LCD panel and components for digital signage industry requirements, 1360×768 WXGA native resolution, 16:9 aspect ratio, 700 cd/m2 brightness, 3,000:1 contrast ratio, TileMatrixT for video walls up to 100 displays, built-in expansion slot, SpectraView II color calibration solution, network control and communication, carbon footprint meter that calculates and tracks carbon savings, CableComp+T technology that equalizes the video signal to reduce color distortion, Rapid ResponseT technology for viewing of high-speed video, diverse input connectors, and optional wall mount and bezel kit.

The MultiSync X461UN comes with a three-year parts and labor warranty and is scheduled to be available in April 2009 with an MSRP of $6,000.
