New features will include compatibility with the MPEG-4-AAC-LD and MPEG4-AAC-LC audio formats and HD video transmission capabilities at narrow bandwidths (768 Kbps) and in unstable public IP network or ISDN environments.
“Users now have the flexibility of selecting HD or mixed-format audio environments, with higher levels of capacity and scalability,” said Aleta Moeller, marketing manager for Sony Electronics’ IPELA videoconferencing group, in a statement. “Users can communicate with a much greater number of endpoints with CD-quality audio, and can connect with both synchronous and asynchronous networks. As a result, businesses can conduct more realistic ‘face-to-face’ videoconferences.”
According to the company, version 2.03 allows support for existing and emerging videoconferencing applications, including immersive, room, and personal HD 3D telepresence, and broad-scale desktop video collaboration, as well as traditional videoconferencing.
The new version offers built-in Quality of Service to maintain a connection even in low bandwidth conditions, overcoming more than 10 percent packet loss within network environments, according to the company.
Users can also share PC data in HD at 30 frames per second, while dual-stream functionality allows users to send two separate parallel streams of live, HD information. For example, both live camera view and animated PowerPoint data can be displayed in HD on two different screens or projectors at a remote site.
With six-site multipoint conferencing, users can call up to five other remote sites to simultaneously meet, with multilanguage support for 23 different languages available through easy-to-navigate menus.
The PCS-XG80 system version 2.03 will be available through Spire Global, Sony Electronics’ sales and service representative for its IPELA line of IP-based videoconferencing endpoints and accessories in the United States, for a suggested list price of $8,999.
