Tandberg Earns Federal Certification

Tandberg announced that it is among the first videoconferencing vendors to receive Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6) certification from the Federal government. The company’s endpoints and infrastructure comply with the Federal mandate announced in June 2008 requiring agencies to adopt IPv6-enabled products and services as a core element of their current and future IT strategies. According to Tandberg, the new protocol is designed to enable interoperability and high levels of security across government communications.
“Videoconferencing technology enables quicker decision-making and allows for real-time, mission-critical collaboration–essential in today’s fast-paced Federal government,” said Joel Brunson, president of Tandberg Federal, in a statement.
Currently, most of the Internet runs on the previous version of Internet protocol, IPv4, which is becoming increasingly inadequate as the Federal government requires a more secure network, say Tandberg officials. IPv6 promises to enable faster inter- and intra-agency collaboration and net-centric communications, with a greater emphasis on security and agility.
Tandberg supports the next-generation protocol for all video infrastructure and endpoints. Additionally, it also has the capability to run IPv4 and IPv6 simultaneously, offering greater flexibility to agencies as they transition to the protocol.
Company officials said that although, Tandberg was just recently certified by the Federal government, its products have supported IPv6 since 2006.
