Mitsubishi Electric First to Offer Interactive Mirror-less Short-Throw 3D Projectors with Dual Pen Support
IRVINE, Calif., January 24, 2011 — Mitsubishi Electric Visual Solutions America, Inc. introduced its first mirror-less interactive projector design that provides dual pen support in two new 3D-ready models. When using light pens, two students or presenters can write, draw, or point independently on any solid surface, including a projection screen, passive white board or any smooth, white or light-colored wall, making teaching with technology more interesting for students.
Mitsubishi’s new interactive projectors offer several benefits:
• No calibration required: the interactive pen communicates directly with the projected image, so set-up is quick and easy. Teachers spend time teaching instead of dealing with calibration.
• No special screen needed: users can turn any solid screen or wall into an interactive surface, presenting up to a 180-inch diagonal image with the WD385U-EST. The interactive surface can be as wide and as tall as a teacher’s arms can reach, making the best use of space in the classroom.
• Maximum portability: because interactivity is not fixed onto a traditional white board, instructors can take these advanced teaching techniques with them from classroom to classroom, which can be more cost-effective for budget-strapped school districts.
• Engaging presentations: teachers and students can interact either directly on the projected surface or standing away from it. This flexibility makes lessons and content easier for students to retain.

Mitsubishi’s wide-screen format WD385U-EST and XGA-resolution XD365U-EST 3D-ready projectors support single or dual pen functionality when used with interactive teaching software like Mitsubishi’s optional bundle, WizTeachA® from Qwizdom, among others. Students and teachers can simply and easily make annotations, draw, write or use the pen as a mouse, on almost any solid surface.
Like its other extreme short-throw projectors, Mitsubishi’s WD385U-EST and XD365U-EST projectors are built with a specially crafted lens that provides excellent short-throw focus performance, and can project a 70-inch (diagonal) image from less than 23-inches away. These new models help prevent shadows on a screen or white board, which can be distracting during interactive sessions. Teachers and presenters can move in front of the image without getting blinded by the projected light path.
Each projector is currently available and comes with one interactive pen. Additional pens are available directly from Mitsubishi for $139. Included with the projectors are Mitsubishi’s three-year limited warranty on parts and labor, and a one-year limited warranty on the lamp. Like all Mitsubishi data projectors, these are covered by the Express Replacement Assistance (ERA) Program, a comprehensive nationwide service that offers next business-day replacement* for down units that are under warranty.
