To revitalize business for Rubino’s Pizzeria in Ashburn, Virgina following the pandemic, the owner wanted to transform the space into two unique dining experiences: the original pizzeria and Rubino’s Sports Pub & Grill.
While the food was one change, the owners wanted to add multiple flatscreen TV throughout the pub area. Customers would be able to gather and be entertained while enjoying drinks, pub fare, and a great atmosphere. The restaurant turned to its longtime AV Integration firm Chase Systems to create a video distribution system that would fit their budget, give them more flexibility, and be easy to manage.
In the past, venues with a lot of displays meant stacks of cable boxes to push content to each display. Every new display required a dedicated video source. This setup was expensive and made it difficult to scale the number of displays and video sources in a system should owners want to add displays or screens. It’s also more complicated for the staff to control. The pub owners wanted a more streamlined, affordable, and compact solution that would give them greater flexibility both in the number of displays and distributing content from any source to any display.
Chase Systems’ Matt Collazo knew that an IP-enabled video distribution system would accommodate Rubino’s requests. He immediately turned to Just Add Power, a company he has long trusted. “I have Just Add Power installs that are more than 10 years old. Plus, their tech support to top-notch,” he says.
For the pub, Collazo installed Just Add Power’s 3G Ultra HD Over IP system, which offers ultra-low 23 ms of latency from source to screen and supports 4K Ultra HD resolutions and HDMI 2.0 devices with HDCP 2.2. The platform enables switching between any resolution HDMI source as well as uncompressed lossless multichannel audio formats, including Dolby Atmos support.
Each of the pub’s nine DirecTV boxes, Roku, and Fire TVs are installed with a Just Add Power VBS-HDIP-707POE transmitter. Each of the 10 Sony displays are equipped with a Just Add Power VBS-HDIP-508 PoE receiver. The AV-over-IP platform is engineered to provide complete scalability, so expanding the system with an additional screen or video source is as simple as adding another receiver or transmitter. IP support is handled via a TRENDnet switch. Just Add Power can be integrated with almost any third-party control system capable of IP control. For this project, staff interact with the system from the bar’s Control4 ecosystem, which allows them to send any source to any display in the system.
The Just Add Power system brought ease and entertainment to Rubino’s, along with open-ended scalability. “If they decide to add displays outside on their patio or add a video wall, Just Add Power makes it super simple to do that,” said Collazo. “They grow their system however they want to grow it. Plus, they can feel great about how reliable and long-lasting the system is.”
