Apple is looking to upgrade its external monitor range for Mac (and iPad) users. According to a new report released yesterday, Apple is currently working on “multiple new external monitors,” including monitors that will ship with Apple Silicon inside. One of these is an updated Pro Display XDR, though it will possibly not be released until the release of the new silicon-powered Mac Pro.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported in the newest edition of his newsletter the news that Apple is in preparations to release multiple new external monitors powered by Apple Silicon that help free up the resources of the computer used:
“Apple is working on multiple new external monitors as well, including an update to the Pro Display XDR that was launched alongside the Intel Mac Pro in 2019. It is possible, however, that the company’s next high-end display will ship after the Mac Pro, as the computer is further along in development than the monitor.
Those new monitors — like the Studio Display launched with the Mac Studio — will include Apple silicon. That helps the screens rely less on resources from the attached computer.”
