NSCA Certifies First C-ESTs

Testing nearly 100 Certified Electronic Systems Technicians (C-EST) certification candidates at the 2004 NSCA Expo in Las Vegas in March, NSCA announced its first group of C-ESTs. With a 40 percent pass rate, the C-EST exams require a high level of technical knowledge in several system components, such as electrical theory and safety, power quality and grounding, switching devices, terminating conductors, electronic theory, computer applications, and fiber optics. Passing both the 100-question written and the hands-on performance verification exams, this group of professionals has achieved industry certification to prove technical expertise in commercial systems. The C-EST credential is the foundation for the more advanced Registered Electronic Systems Integrator (R-ESI) designation. Requiring a combination of 8,000 hours of work experience and 120 hours of systems training, the R-ESI credential will be available in spring 2005.

ICIA appointed Don Guzauckas Jr., CTS, ICIA Rental and Staging Council chair, ICIA board member, and HB Group general manager; and Lou Nanni, ICIA director of certification and workforce development, as its representatives to the ESTA Certification Council. AMPTP appointed Dennis King, AMPTP vice president, as its representative to the council.
