When the August issue of Sound & Video Contractor showed up in my inbox with a cover photo of the Fashion Show project in Las Vegas, I was pleased and more than a little intrigued. Having spent the better part of the past five years leading that project’s audiovisual technology planning, design, architectural integration, systems engineering, and implementation management, I’m generally pleased to see Fashion Show in the media. However, when I read the article, I was disappointed not so much by what I read as by what I didn’t read.
While Bennett Liles’s article offers a fairly accurate description of Fashion Show’s audiovisual platform, the article fails to credit most of the talented firms and individuals who conceived, engineered, and built what Liles wrote about — including my firm, Vantage Technology Consulting Group. Other key participants in the project who deserved credit but failed to receive it include Randy Byrd, of the Rouse Company, who managed the audio, visual, and staging (AV&S) program, as well as Cathie Layhee, of the Whiting-Turner Contracting Company, and Kent Corbel, of i2g, who oversaw construction of the AV&S infrastructure and installation of all the technology systems. Of course, there’d have been nothing at all to write about were it not for the creative vision of the architects at Orne and Associates as well as Altoon and Porter Architects.
I hope future articles such as this will give consideration to the consultants, designers, engineers, contractors, and others who are such an important component of your readership and our industry.
