Dolby Showcases Broadcast and Cinema Solutions

Dolby Laboratories showed off a complete digital solution for broadcasters and content creators.

At NAB, Dolby Laboratories showed off a complete digital solution for broadcasters and content creators leaving analog behind.

For broadcasters, the Dolby Media Meter is a software loudness meter for Mac and PC applications that uses measurement techniques, such as Dialogue Intelligence technology, adopted from the Dolby LM100 Broadcast Loudness Meter. Dolby will also demonstrate transcoding between Dolby E, Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, and its new “aacPlus by Dolby” codec on the Dolby DP600 Program Optimizer and Cat No. 561 Dolby Digital Plus Encoder OEM module, while new licensing programs for many of these products will be made available.

The latest cinema-related products showcased include a Dolby SCC2000 Secure Content Creator expansion and the Cine-tal Color Processor for Dolby 3D by Cine-tal Systems. As a scalable mastering solution for JPEG2000 digital cinema compression, encoding, packaging, and encryption, the Dolby SCC2000 is designed to work as a stand-alone unit or integrated into current postproduction and digital intermediate systems, for efficient 2K and 4K JPEG 2000 encoding. Cine-tal’s Color Processor is a customized image processing technology that facilitates the playback of 3D movies using a Dolby 3D Digital Cinema system. It’s intended for movie studios and other producers of stereoscopic 3D films and employs Dolby’s advanced color processing for playback of 3D source material not yet packaged into a Digital Cinema Package.
